To get your brand cited by AI, stop pouring the work into your own page and start conditioning the third-party sources the models actually read, while publishing clean, specific facts a model can lift and attribute. AI answers are built mostly from sources you do not own, so the fastest path to being named is to earn accurate, consistent presence across those sources and to measure citations, not rankings. Here is the practitioner sequence that moves the number.
Before you change anything, see what each model reads for your category. The source pools barely overlap between models, so you have to check each one. This tells you whether the model is leaning on a review site, a forum thread, an encyclopedic entry, or a competitor’s page, and it is the single most useful diagnostic you can run.
Not all absences are the same. Use the ORHL frame: are you Omitted entirely, Replaced by a competitor in the slot you should hold, Hallucinated about with a wrong fact, or present with Zero Leads. Each needs a different fix, and guessing wastes effort.
Models reward named, dated, sourced statements they can quote. Brands with eight or more structured, extractable attributes get cited over four times more than brands with fewer than three (Erlin, 2026). Replace vague marketing lines with concrete, verifiable facts about what you offer, for whom, where, and at what standard.
Being the source beats citing sources. Get accurate, consistent references into the third-party places the models read for your category, and keep your entity signals aligned across them. A brand with five or more active third-party sources has a strong chance of being surfaced, while a brand with one or none rarely is (Erlin, 2026).
A large share of the time a brand appears in an AI answer, there is no link back and no clear naming. Make sure your brand name sits inside the specific, answerable statements a model quotes, so a citation becomes a named mention rather than an unattributed reference.
If a model is citing an outdated or incorrect fact about you, treat it as urgent. Find the source it is reading and fix it there. In one enterprise engagement, NeuroRank® corrected an outdated figure a model was citing back to a brand’s own customers within 40 days.
The models and their sources change constantly, so this is not a one-time project. Content freshness matters: on some engines, a page cited most of the time at 30 days drops sharply by 180 days without a refresh. Re-run your prompts monthly, watch inclusion and citation move, and keep conditioning. NeuroRank runs this entire loop, from diagnosis to monthly tracking, at cluster level.
